2Box
Method.

Every problem gets cut in half before anything is built: how the work runs today, and how it should feel when it works. The workflow between the two halves is where it gets solved.

The story

How a box gets cut.

Six moves, in the order I think them through in a room. Let it play, or step through them.

One big box.

Most people see a problem as one big box in the way, and they push it harder.

Step back.

I get ten thousand feet above the box and watch the person pushing it. From up there the whole shape is visible.

Cut it in half.

One half is how the work runs today. The other half is how it should feel when it works.

Push the halves apart.

The empty space between them is not wasted. It is where the problem gets solved.

Work the gap.

Fill it with the inner workings: the lines, the options, the questions. One sign-in, a phone that works, sheets or forms. One idea leads to the next, and everyone in the room can see it.

Hand it to the tools.

Pictures, notes and a voice memo go into a prompt for AI builders like Replit, v0 or Claude. What comes back is already close to the right-hand box. Then you refine.

The idea

Two questions answer everything.

Box one

What does it run on today?

The data, the business logic, the sheets, the forms and the people who hold it together. If it is not written down, it is not in the box.

Box two

What should it feel like when it works?

What the customer, the team or the driver walks through, from the first tap to done.

The gap

Where the workflow lives.

The lines between the boxes are the steps that move work from one side to the other. Neither half can hide a problem from the other.

Keep both sides in balance

One giant problem and ten wins, or ten problems and one win: either one is lopsided. Cut it so each half can be held in one hand, and the middle becomes easy to see.

What it produces

Three layers, twelve features.

Once the gap is worked out, a build has three layers, each with the same four kinds of work.

  1. 01

    The data warehouse

One source of truth for what the business runs on: data points, business logic, services and APIs, organized before code exists and never asked for twice.

    • Sign-in and row-level policies
    • Parameterized queries
    • Environment isolation
    • Row-level scoping
  2. 02

    The lines

The connective tissue between the data and the experience: workflows, nuance and know-how, every step sequenced and every edge case mapped before the first sprint.

    • Agentic workflows
    • API integration
    • A business logic layer
    • Error and retry handling
  3. 03

    The experience

What the customer sees, feels and walks through, specified so precisely that nothing is left to guess and nothing is lost at hand-off.

    • A motion-first interface
    • Conversion copy
    • Accessibility built in
    • Production deployment
How I run the room

The people with the problem steer.

No answer walks in the door, only questions, a marker and a wide set of tools. You know the business. I connect the pieces: asking, drawing what I hear, and taking pictures as we go so everyone is looking at the same thing.

Where it is used

The first hour of every Fit Call.

The session is live 2Box scoping on your own operation. The same step opens every build, as the scoping inside Digest.

It has engineering names, entity modeling and three-tier architecture. I did not study either. The method came first, and the names came later.

Common questions

In short.

What is the 2Box Method?+

A way to scope a problem before anything is built. Cut it in half: how the work runs today, and how it should feel when it works. Push the halves apart, and the empty space between them is where the workflow gets worked out.

Where is it used?+

The first 60 to 90 minutes of every Fit Call are live 2Box scoping, and it is the scoping step inside Digest, the first phase of the 3D Agentic Build System.

What are the engineering names for it?+

Entity modeling and three-tier architecture. The method came first, and the names came later.

The Fit Call is 60 to 90 minutes of 2Box scoping on your operation. A written, fixed-price scope follows within two to three business days, or an honest no.
